Safety

Call 911 immediately if your safety is at risk.

The Campus Safety Web site, maintained by the Offices of the Dean of Students, provides important information about crime prevention, procedures for reporting crime, resources for victims, and crime statistics to enhance the safety and security of everyone who visits, studies, or works on our campus. In particular, this site is a valuable resource for individuals who have concerns about relationship violence, domestic abuse, sexual assault, and/or stalking.

Sexual Assault

If you are a victim of, or witness to, a sexual assault on campus or in the immediate surrounding area, you should call 911 immediately.

One of the ways we measure progress toward our goal of creating a safe and positive environment for work and study is to record and report incidents of sexual assault on and near our campus. In addition, Wisconsin law (Chapter 36.11(22), Wisconsin Statutes) requires reporting of sexual assault on campus and in certain surrounding areas. The University of Wisconsin-Madison relies on reports from employees, students and other members of the University community to support the victims of these crimes and to meet its legal obligations.

Employees who witness or receive a first hand report of sexual assault on campus or in the immediate surrounding area are required to report the sexual assault to campus officials. The Office for Equity and Diversity is the designated campus office for receiving employee reports of sexual assault and for compiling annual employee reports:

Office for Equity & Diversity
Room 179A Bascom Hall
500 Lincoln Drive
Madison, Wisconsin 53706
Telephone: 608-263-2378
FAX: 608-263-5562
Wisconsin Telecommunications Relay Service, 7-1-1

For the University of Wisconsin-Madison to comply with state law, we need the cooperation of all University employees. Please contact the Office for Equity & Diversity if you have any questions about this reporting requirement.

Students who are assaulted, witness an assault, or receive a first hand report of sexual assault should contact the Offices of the Dean of Students, which receive student reports of sexual assault and compile annual reports of student assaults:

Offices of the Dean of Students
75 Bascom Hall
500 Lincoln Drive
Madison, Wisconsin 53706
Telephone: 608-263-5700

The Office for Equity & Diversity and Offices of the Dean of Students work together to report annually to UW System Administration the number of sexual assaults occurring on campus and in surrounding areas, in compliance with state law.
